ROSEBLOOD - ROSEBLOOD Vinyl LP
Roseblood is the solo labour of love of Portland, OR based musician, Kathy Foster (The Thermals, All Girl Summer Fun Band, Hurry Up, Slang), and this self-titled LP is her debut album. Though she’s mostly been known as a collaborator and a prominent rhythm section player in the underground rock community, she’s quietly been writing and home-recording her own songs for a long time - under various aliases - never sharing too much except a few DIY releases over the years. Until now! In Roseblood, Kathy’s focused on creating a cohesive sound that channels influences of 50’s/60’s girl groups, garage & soul, desert blues, lo-fi fuzz rock, post-punk, and she brazenly embraces themes of love, loss, heartbreak and isolation. Portland musician and producer, Chris Sutton, writes: “With every track on ‘Roseblood’ we hear Kathy Foster channeling her most mystic rock n’ roll impulses into an electric paintbrush dipped in fluorescent grey, and using it to manipulate a billowing cloud of dream-fuzz pastiche through the perpetual rhythms of Sunday morning raindrops rippling off of the Burnside bridge. Another powerful chapter in her much beloved songwriter oeuvre.” The album was recorded mostly by Kathy throughout the pandemic and features superstar drummer Janet Weiss (Quasi, Sleater-Kinney, Slang) on all but two songs.
